On 17 May, in Sambuca di Sicilia, a touching tribute was paid to the memory of Giacomo Rallo, in the presence of his son Antonio and Vittorio Ruggieri, President of Donnafugata.
As wished for by the municipal administration, present with Mayor Leo Ciaccio, the Terre Sicane Wine Route with Gori Sparacino and the Cana Oasis Association led by Carmelo Moscato, a plaque to remember the generosity of the wine entrepreneur, founder of Donnafugata. was unveiled.
In 2011 Giacomo Rallo had, in fact, donated a small vineyard planted with Nero d’Avola to the association, owner of the former Convent that has been engaged in social solidarity and disability assistance activities for over 20 years.
Since then the vineyard called “Cana” has allowed the realization of the project “Adopt a vine“ that has seen the students of “Fra Felice” Middle School protagonists of a playful experiential journey that from the harvest to the winery has given rise to “Cana Wine”.
The project that has availed itself of the collaboration of the enologist Giovanni Maggio and the Menfi Intercommunal Agriculture Office will continue in the future, with the aim of bringing children closer to viticulture, that is one of the main sources of income and development in this territory.
Giacomo Rallo was at home in Sambuca di Sicilia, both because Donnafugata has some of its vineyards here just a few kilometers from the Contessa Entellina winery, and because he loved this village deeply and assiduously frequented it with his wife Gabriella. In Sambuca he had a network of friends and loved ones who gathered numerously to remember “their” Giacomo Rallo, a year after his death.
The plaque on the facade of the former convent was unveiled to the tune of the national anthem performed by the school orchestra; it reads: <Here where the Convent of the PP. Cappuccini was erected in Anno Domini 1606, as wished for by Giacomo Rallo the “Cana” vineyard was established, a symbol of rebirth that perpetuates the cycle of life. An everlasting memorial, put up by the municipal administration, the Cana Oasis Onlus Association, the Terre Sicane Wine Route. Sambuca di Sicilia, 17 May 2017.>
